The Leo/Aquarius axis is live, and it’s asking harder questions than last year’s Capricorn moon did.

In 2026, July’s Buck Moon rises on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, reaching peak illumination at 10:36 a.m. Eastern time. Which means by the time a lot of us step outside to actually see it, it’ll already be technically past its peak. Which is honestly just fine.

The Moon will look completely full Wednesday night and into Thursday. The sky doesn’t care about exact timestamps. (Neither do I.)

If you want the deep-dive on the Buck Moon’s mythology, its names, its shamanic resonance, and why July’s full Moon carries such a distinct energy, I’ve written all of that here.

This post is about this year, this moment, and what the Aquarius placement specifically has to say.

And, wow, it has things to say.

The Delta Aquariid Meteor Shower: The Sky This Week

The Delta Aquariid Meteor Shower: The Sky This Week

Before we get into the astrology, let’s talk meteors for a sec. Because why not.

The Delta Aquariid meteor shower peaks the night of July 28 into July 29…the exact night before the Buck Moon hits full illumination.

So we have a meteor shower and a full moon arriving in nearly the same breath.

The bright moon will probably wash out the fainter meteors, but the brightest streaks should still cut through.

If you’re planning on being outdoors this week, Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, it’s worth looking up. There’s something about a meteor shower under a nearly-full moon that just feels like the universe making a point.

The point it seems to be making this year: Look up. And then look around at who’s standing next to you.

Leo Season, Aquarius Moon: The Axis That Matters

Leo Season, Aquarius Moon: The Axis That Matters

Here’s the thing about full moons, astrologically speaking. They always sit opposite the Sun.

So when the Sun is in Leo (July 23 through August 22), the full moon is in Aquarius. Every year. That’s not magic, that’s geometry.

But what you do with that geometry is where it gets interesting.

Leo and Aquarius are opposing signs, which means they represent opposing (and complementary) energies.

Leo is the Sun itself. That means individual creative fire, self-expression, personal sovereignty, the bright stage.

Leo season asks who are you and what have you made?

It’s radiant, it’s magnetic, and at its shadow edge, it can tip into performance. (Into playing the role of yourself rather than actually being yourself, if that makes sense.)

So, aquarius is the cool air to Leo’s fire.

It’s the sign of the collective, the community, the longer arc.

Aquarius is less interested in who are you and more interested in what are you contributing, and to what?

It sees the group, the cause, the web of connection that extends beyond any single person.

On the shadow side, it can go cold. That means intellectualized, detached, belonging to everyone and therefore no one.

The Leo/Aquarius axis at a full moon is a moment of reckoning between those two poles.

It may bring up stuff like: Where have I been performing rather than contributing? Where have I been serving the collective at the expense of knowing myself? Where’s the genuine overlap…the place where my most authentic creative expression is also what my people need?

That last question is the good one. It’s the one worth sitting with this week.

What This Moon Is Personally Asking Me

What This Moon Is Personally Asking Me

I’m going to be honest with you, because that’s the whole point of this blog.

I’m turning 50 this year. (HOW did that happen, wow?)

I’ve spent nearly three decades doing this work. Energy work, shamanic practice, plant medicine, ceremony. I’ve worked mostly in private, mostly one person at a time.

And now I’m building something public. Sanctuary Everlasting is my attempt to bring all of it out of the back room and into the world in a way that can actually reach people who need it.

That is, structurally, a Leo/Aquarius problem.

So, like all of you folks, I’m deeply, irreversibly myself.

My practice is idiosyncratic and personal and the product of thirty years of my own lived experience.

That’s the Leo part. The individual flame, the creative fire, the this is specifically mine.

But the whole reason I’m building this publicly is because it’s not for me. You see what I’m saying?

It’s for the people who are exhausted by the pharmaceutical hamster wheel and are quietly looking for something else because they’ve been ripping their hair out trying to figure their stuff out.

The people who feel things they can’t explain and want a framework that doesn’t require them to abandon their intelligence to access it.

The people who’d never search “Beltane” but absolutely search “why do I feel drained around certain people.”

So the Buck Moon in Aquarius is asking me personally: Are you building community, or are you building an audience? Those are different things. An audience watches. A community participates. One is a stage, the other is a circle.

I want the circle.

This moon is good energy for anyone facing that kind of reckoning. Whether you’re building something public, or quietly figuring out which relationships in your life are actually community and which ones are just proximity.

A Practice for July's Aquarius Buck Moon

This is less a ritual and more an extended exhale.

You don’t need any tools for it, though use whatever you’d normally reach for…a candle, your cacao, whatever helps you settle.

Try this

Find somewhere you can be outside, or at least near an open window, sometime in the days around July 29. Tuesday night through Thursday is the sweet spot.

If the skies cooperate, look for the moon rising in the east-southeast after sunset, low and amber on the horizon.

Let it actually land on you for a minute before you do anything else.

The Buck Moon rides low in July. The sun is at its highest, so the full moon balancing it sits close to the horizon all night. That low amber quality is a gift.

Use it.

Then, when you’re ready, ask yourself one of these questions. Just one. Sit with it the way you’d sit by a bonfire rather than a screen…without expecting an immediate answer, without performing the consideration of it. Just hold it and see what comes.

Who are my people?

Not your followers, not your clients, not your colleagues.

Your people.

The ones who know your name and what you’re building and are quietly rooting for it. The ones you’d actually call on the phone to talk live, friend to friend.

Or this one:

Where am I performing belonging instead of actually belonging?

That one’s sharper. It’s asking about the groups, communities, and containers in your life where you’re showing up but not actually landing. Where you’re present but not nourished. That’s useful information.

Or, if you’re in a season of building something:

Am I building a stage or a circle?

You don’t have to answer any of these out loud, in your journal, or to another person.

Sometimes the most honest reckoning happens in the quiet between a question and the moon.

One More Thing

One More Thing

The Delta Aquariids radiate (they appear to originate) from Aquarius.

So the meteor shower and the full moon are sharing both a sign and a week.

That’s genuinely interesting, cosmically speaking. Aquarius is already associated with sudden insight, pattern recognition, and the kind of knowing that arrives quickly and from an unexpected angle.

Meteors are a good symbol for that. They don’t build slowly. They appear, burn bright, and then they’re done, right.

This week, if something comes to you suddenly…about who you are, who your people are, what you’re building and for whom…trust it a little more than you might otherwise. That’s

the Aquarian current. It moves fast and I find that it’s, generally speaking, right.

The moon peaks Wednesday morning. But the energy is live now.

Go stand under it.
